Here are my 2015 favourites! This was a very exciting blog post to create, because it forced me to look back on what was a really incredible year for me in 2015. I had so many new products that I discovered, tried so many new things, found out about new brands and techniques, it was a huge year of growth in makeup for me personally. The launching of my makeup dedicated Instagram @faceofsjw and this blog resulted in my exposure to so many different people and products. I fell in love with false eyelashes, something I had never ventured towards, and I feel that my overall makeup skills improved considerably.
2015 was also the year that I discovered the world of blogging, and everyone reading this! I cannot describe how much joy my hobby has brought to me, something that I had always been curious about, and finally took the time to create my own. It is truly my best decision of 2015 and something that I am so glad I began, I cannot wait to see what 2016 brings.
While my favourite products are listed below, some of my other favourites have to be the people I have met over the year, both online and in person. Bloggers United AU is a huge contributing factor to my love of blogging, begin involved in the running of the Sydney event was an incredible experience and one that I hope to be able to relive! IMATS Sydney was another experience in which I met so many people like me that have a huge passion for makeup, and also got to purchase so many beautiful products, I totally recommend IMATS to anybody interested. Lastly, and most recently attending the Loreal & Maybelline 2016 product showings at Google head office in Sydney was an amazing way of meeting so many incredible people in person and seeing some really exciting things coming to the affordable makeup range in 2016. Two out of three of these events would not have been possible without the support from every blog post view, Instagram like, photo regram and comment. So much has become possible because of the support that I have been shown by the online beauty community, and I am so grateful. I hope to see you all in 2016.
Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer –
This primer is a heaven sent if you have normal to oily skin, it prolongs my makeup beautifully, and leaves my skin as a beautiful canvas, every foundation looks better with this foundation underneath, but why Hourglass are you so expensive.
SmashBox Studio Skin ‘1.2’ –
This category was really tricky to decide on, but I have to choose this one as it has been so well loved toward the end of the year! This is a full coverage foundation, with a natural finish, neither matte nor dewy. I can’t recommend this foundation enough as I think that it would suit so many people! I love how long lasting this foundation is while being comfortable.
Urban Decay Naked Skin ‘Warm Light’ –
This concealer is so light weight, but yet delivers full coverage, there are so many different shades, and is so blend able, perfect for under eyes and blemishes. It is a beautiful concealer that is so well worth the hype!
Laura Mericer Invisible Setting Powder ‘Universal’ –
A loose powder is something that I normally avoid, but this is a gorgeous loose powder that is fantastic at setting foundation and concealer, whilst making my skin look silky smooth and keeping everything in place, totally recommend this to any skin type, even powder non believers would love this Laura Mercier one!
Under Eye Powder:
Bare Minerals Concealer ‘Well Rested’ –
This was a recommendation via Shaaanxo, and I cannot agree enough, the banana powder shades have been all the range this year, but this is the perfect under eye setting powder, it is not yellow but highlights under eye’s so well that there is nothing that I can compare to this product!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade ‘Dark Brown’ –
A cult favourite for a very good reason. I feel like my brows stepped up so well this year, with a big thanks to this product. It can really be manipulated to be more natural or be a dramatic brow product. I love the colour and how quick and easy my brows have become.
Loreal Brow Artiste Plumper ‘Dark Brown’ –
The best brow gel I have ever used, perfect for over other products or on it’s own. It adds texture and colour to my brows, and is affordable. There are many similar products, but this one is my total favourite! It works so well every time, and I only wish they had more shades.
Maybelline Lash Senstational ‘Black’ –
A simple looking mascara, but there is something about it that I seriously love, it is very black colour, and both separates, defines and slightly adds volume, the dream for everyday mascara. It also is perfect for under false lashes as it isn’t too dramatic.
Makeup Geek Single Eyeshadows –
These shadows are incredible, they cannot be more perfect if they tried and one day I am determined to have them all! The pans are such a nice size and the quality is the best I have ever used, every other eyeshadow never seems to hold up against the ones from Makeup Geek. The shades I have are: Shimma Shimma, Purely Naked, Frappe, Glamorous, Homecoming, Cocoa Bear, Pretentious, Burlesque & Corrupt.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance –
I only have a mini of this eyeshadow primer as it was sold at Mecca Maxima in a small set, which was the perfect way to try out the Champagne formula and the original formula, I love both. The original is great from when using matte shadows, and the Champagne is perfect for shimmer style shadows. Adds to the colour payoff of the shadow and increases the longevity.
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer ‘Milk Chocolate’ –
As a naturally very pale person, even with fake tan, I am light skin toned at best, so finding contour powders that aren’t too warm or too cool or too heavy can be really difficult. This bronzer is really soft and blends really well, I find it super easy to work with, and it also makes a great everyday transition shade or all over lid eyeshadow, who doesn’t love a bit of multitasking.
Too Faced Soul Mates Bronzer ‘Carrie & Big – Limited Edition’ –
Another bronzer that is perfect for fair to light skinned makeup wearers, it is a gorgeous blush and bronzer combination, but the bronzer is perfection for warming up the perimeters of the face, it adds a subtle amount of colour, while being enough to add a little dimension. Sadly this is limited edition, but there is really nothing else that has compared for me this year, I only wish I had a back up!
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector ‘Opal’ –
Another item that I personally believe that is one hundred perfect worth the hype around it. I picked up Opal and it has made me want Moonstone so badly! The formula is silky and gives a look of metallic colour on the cheeks. The colours are gorgeous and I really believe that if you love an intense highlight then this can become your best friend.
MAC ‘Melba’ –
This blush from MAC is nothing new, and to most people it may seem very un exciting, but I love that this is the ultimate ‘goes with anything’ blush colour, I am yet to wear a makeup look that doesn’t suit this blush. The formula is long wearing and has a matte finish so I am able to apply highlighter by the bucket load. I am always a large matte blush fan because of my love for highlighters. This is a beautiful light pink and peach colour that I really believe would suit every skin tone.
Chi Chi Cosmetics ‘Centrefold’ –
A simple nude lipstick, with a creamy formula, doesn’t seem all that exciting, but there is something about the tone or shade of this lipstick is just different and makes it seriously the most perfect nude lip on my fair to light skin. I love this lipstick, it is not particularly long wearing, because of it’s creamy formula, but it is very comfortable to wear. Do not leave in a car during an Australian Summer, it will melt, mine did.
Jeffree Star Velour Lipsticks –
I cannot choose a specific shade from the range, because I love everything about the Jeffree Star Velour liquid lipsticks. If you are after a liquid lipstick, please try these out! They are so long wearing but not drying, my lips look plumper somehow. I just love them and cannot recommend them enough, even the packaging is adorable. The shades I have: I’m Nude, Adrogyny, Redrum, Unicorn Blood & Weirdo.
Essence Lip Liners –
These are pencil lip liners, which I normally don’t like as much as retractable lip liners, as they tend not to be as creamy as mechanical ones, these are $2 each, and are so fantastic, I only wish they had more colours in the range, as there is only 5 in all. They have the perfect basic range for beginners or even just keeping lipsticks relatively basic. These are a total favourite affordable product, and are something I will repurchase over and over again! Easy to sharpen as well, which makes use easy.
Burts Bee’s Tinted Lip Balm ‘Caramel Daisy’ –
I am yet to wear this without receiving a compliment, from a random stranger, people I work with or friends & family. The formula is nothing amazing, but the colour payoff is beautiful light nude colour with a slight brown tone, it does a good job of adding some moisture to my lips, but there is something about this product that I don’t know what makes it so incredible, but it just is.
Skindinavia Original Setting Spray –
This is one of the newest products to me on this list of favourites, Skindinavia also creates the Urban Decay sprays, so when I enjoyed the UD one, I decided that IMATS Sydney was the perfect time to test the Skindinavia. This spray by far has the best increase in longevity of any makeup setting spray that I have used. It doesn’t appear to dry out the skin, but it does add a longer life time onto my makeup when using the spray.
Maybelline Forever Strong Super Stay Gel Nail Colour –
These nail polishes are a total heaven sent to someone with chip prone nails such as my self. I have never worn fake nails, and love changing my nail colour on average 2-3 times a week, and sadly my nails are fast growing but quite weak. I love the shade range from this collection and the longevity on my nails, I have never found another nail polish range that have lasted as well on my nails. I have the shades: Eternal Lilac, Deep Red, Rose Poudre, Ever Burgundy, Mauve On.
Ardell Natural ‘120’ Demi Wispies ‘Black’ –
Before this year I had never put on a pair of false lashes, and I don’t know what I was doing! Lashes have quickly taken over my life toward the end of 2015, they just complete a makeup look and tie together any eye look. I have tried out quite a few brands of lashes now, and predominantly inexpensive but also one set of expensive lashes. These are my most worn pair and won out as favourite because they are cheap and easily accessible. These wispie pair of lashes are gorgeous and are so easy to wear, they have an invisible band, and are easy to apply as well as being comfortable. I love these lashes from Ardell, and need to try out more of their range!
