Fake tanning has become an art in my personal opinion, with so many different products on the market and such an upkeep needed in order to maintain a healthy looking fake tan has meant that my tanning routine has become something that I have been attempting to perfect for sometime now, and I think I almost have it at 100%!
This is not me saying that I haven’t made mistakes, I have had the orange look, I have had the super dark hands, the streaks after waking up, even the streaks from washing my face with water dripping down my elbows. Trust me I have had some shockers, but that is why I feel that I have more to offer, after trying out what has felt like 90% of the tanning selection out there from gradual tanners, to mouse instant tanners, cream products, spray liquid products and everything in between, if there is a tan out there, chances are I have tried it.
So I will talking all about the products that I believe create the perfect DIY tan that you can do from the comfort of your own home, in between everything else that you need to get done in a day.
T A N:
Loving Tan is my new favourite brand of self tanner, I discovered it in November 2015, after so much hype online about this Australian brand. Once I finally tried Loving Tan, I understood all of the hype, as the product is incredible, there really is no questioning why so many people love this tan.
I personally love the ‘2 Hour Express Tan’ in “Dark” and that is probably my favourite from the range that I have tried. I have not experimented with “Ultra Dark” as I personally think that “Dark” is about as dark as I can go personally without looking ridiculous. For a slightly lighter tan the ‘Deluxe Bronzing Mousse’ in ‘Dark’ for some reason comes out lighter on my skin than the 2 Hour express, I cannot tell why, but that just seems to be the way with the Loving Tan range.
If you are looking for a different tan and if you really struggle with hydration on your skin then I have an alternative for you which is just as dark as the above mentioned from Loving Tan. This is the Mine Tan ‘Coconut Tan Foam’ which is infused with coconut water, meaning that the skin is left hydrated even before using moisturiser. This is my second most used tan, and is available in Priceline stores, meaning that it is easily accessible in person, unlike the Loving Tan in my situation. The only issue that I take with the Mine Tan is I find that it does not last the same kind of time in comparison to the Loving Tan, regardless, this is a great tan for when my skin feels like it needs some extra hydration.
M I T T:
For a long time, I did not have a favourite mitt, I had always used the Le Tan mitt because it was cheap, accessible and did not shed on me. Every other mitt I seemed to use always seemed to shed on me and leave delightful black fluff all over my body, which I am just not a fan of. However, recently I was gifted the ‘Mine Tan Bronze On’ tanning mitt. This is a double sided fluffier mitt, and is just absolute perfection, with no shedding and available from Priceline. I cannot recommend this mitt enough, and really believe that this is the best I have tried, after about 10 others have been tested, all in the name of research of course.
M O I S T U R I S E R:
The Vaseline spray moisturiser range is a total heaven sent to people like myself who are lazy as all hell in regards to moisturising. I hate the waiting around period of feeling sticky and having nothing to show for it unlike tanning. However, this spray innovation from Vaseline is truly perfection for my dry skin on my body and helping to maintain and prolong my tan after application and initial showering.
Another recommendation in regards towards moisturising, is a far more intensive moisturiser that I find perfect for: hands, knees, ankles, etc. This intensive silky moisturiser is perfect for extra dry areas that need extra attention, in order to minimise dry patches and tan holding onto patches more than desired. This Silky Moisturiser from Dove feels so hydrating on the skin, and absorbs relatively quickly considering the intensity.
S C R U B:
While most people would recommend a body scrub with sugar or coffee, the scrub that I actually recommend the most comes in a mitt form from Le Tan. This is a very coarse mitt, and leaves no tan behind. Some may find this slightly uncomfortable, and I do rub quite harshly, but this removes all tan, and leaves my skin feeling very fresh and prepared for moisturiser and new tan to be applied. I have not found anything better than this mitt for removing tan, and recommend using a simple body wash or lotion in the shower when using this tan remover mitt.
