I have personally been blogging for a little over a year now, which I understand is a very small portion of time compared to some, but blog posts such as this focusing on tips and tricks are some of my personal favourite blog posts to read, so I thought I would give it a go for myself and share some of my favourite things to do.

Consistency is key in so many aspects of blogging and having an Instagram profile, both in the style of photos, your theme and also the amount you post on both your blog and Instagram.
In regards to photo theme, whether it be beauty focused or you like to expand into a couple of different genres, regardless attempt to keep a flow or some kind of similarities in the photos in order for your pages and photos to seem connected, even if it is a similar background or the same filter.
Consistency in regards to posting is probably my biggest suggestion if you want to expand your accounts or just continue a steady flow of new audience members. I personally find the more often I post photos and if I can maintain this steady flow of uploading both on my Instagram and blog is the easiest way to expand both. If your posts are erratic and there is no consistency in how often you post then people will easily loose interest or struggle to engage in your content.

Keep an eye on your engagement and make sure that you don’t ignore it, see what is working and what is not successful. Be open to changing things, and try not to get stuck into ruts of doing the same thing over and over again with little result. Google analytics is something that I have not successfully conquered yet, but if you are using wordpress like myself then they have a very helpful statistic area which makes it easy to understand which blog posts are popular, dates and even times.
Another way to understand you engagement is ask questions of your consumers. Ask people what they want to read and see more of, you may not get answers from everyone, but these responses could give you ideas and even some more inspiration for future ideas of even slight changes in direction.

The personality of blogging can be very subtle or far more obvious. Subtle ways of injecting personality to your blog or Instagram is even through your caption or the style of how you write your blog posts. This is an easy way to open your self up to the audience and allow them to feel more engaged in your blogging. A more obvious way to inject personality is through sharing personal events, occasions or experiences, even just this is what I did today, a photo from an event, wedding, etc. There are so many ways to inject personality into your work, and I really believe that it is beneficial in regards to expanding your audience and increasing interest.

This is something that I think can easily be forgotten by many and that is to be a good neighbour to those around you on both Instagram and the blogging world. It can be easy to become so consumed in what you are doing in your own accounts that you forget that other people around you are trying to do the same thing that you are. So don’t forget to have a look around at what is going on around you on other accounts, you may find some new inspiration, ideas for blog posts or products to try out, also you could even make some new friends while your doing your thing! Some of my favourite parts of blogging are some of the people I have interacted with similar interests, it truly is the cherry on top of expanding my passion for beauty and all things personal presentation.

This is some advice that I kind of wish I didn’t have to give, but sadly with the nature of the internet, it is something that every blogger or influencer needs to be aware of. While I will never condone cyber bullying or just general rudeness online, it is an aspect of the internet which I feel people should be aware of.
However, I do truly believe that in order to succeed in blogging try to give minimal thought into what other people think of you. This may also include people that you know judging the hobby or people that you don’t know judging because they are behind a keyboard. Regardless of any detractors, be comfortable that if it is something that you enjoy your are not harming anyone by indulging your hobby and that you should be proud for trying something new, so please be confident in yourself!
Of course there are so many other things that help pull a blog together, but these principles are my best recommendations if you are looking for the total basics in regards to creating a blog and maintaining interest not only as the creator but the audience receiving the content.
If you have made it this far, thank you for doing so, and if you enjoyed this blog post please let me know if you would like me to make it a series if there are any further questions you may have. Thank you again, Sarah x
