SKINCARE: Moisturisers.

Once upon a time, I thought I had oily skin and would wash, scrub and avoid moisturiser, thinking that this would magically fix my skin. A couple of years later I have a much better understanding of my skin and its needs, I now realise that I have normal skin, with dehydrated patches on my lower cheeks. Not discrediting the validity of washing and scrubbing the face, but like anything in skincare, and life, you need to replace what you remove. I was only removing from my skin and giving nothing back to it, which in turn was making it oiler because my skin was trying to compensate by producing more natural oils.

Now, a couple of years later and I would love to pretend a little wiser about skincare at least, I understand that the best way to treat almost any skin condition is to moisturise and hydrate the skin. I love moisturising my skin, always in the evening and when I manage time-wise in the morning. My skin is drastically different and so much brighter and less dull.

Below are some of my favourite moisturisers, and hydrating products. This is not an exclusive list, and there are more products that I do use, but these are some that I have been loving.

CREAM STYLE:

GO TO SKINCARE – Very Useful Face Cream:

I have to confess that when I first tried this product, I wasn’t that impressed, I  was wrong, forgive me. I love this cream of an evening as I find that I can build this cream up and apply quite a generous amount and then sleep with a thick layer on as if it’s almost a mask because its comfortable on the skin and so intensely hydrating. I love the light natural scent of this cream and how it absorbs into my skin, whenever I wake up my skin looks more radiant automatically after using this cream.

GEL STYLE:

NEUTROGENA – Hydro Boost Night Concentrate:

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost range is probably my favourite in the affordable skincare market because of its high-quality feel, and incredible results. I have turned so many friends and family onto this range because I truly believe its a fabulous range. The day moisturiser is beautiful, but the night time moisturiser is my favourite product from the range, and really is an incredible night time moisturiser and I love the gel feel.

CLINIQUE – Moisture Surge 72 Hydrator:

A skincare item that has been heavily hyped online, and a relatively new product to me that I have been obsessed with lately. This can be worn in a thick layer and still absorbs well into the skin and leaves the skin feeling refreshed. This also wears well under makeup because it is so lightweight and absorbs well into my skin without sitting on the skin and disrupting makeup.

BALM STYLE

PHILOSOPHY SKINCARE – Take A Deep Breath Night Oil-Free Gel Balm:

As someone who trials a lot of skincare, this product was a total game changer for me as I have already used on a full tub of this gel balm after falling in love with it so heavily. Before this product, I hadn’t used another gel balm that I had loved this much. It is definitely a balm/gel style consistency, and much thicker than the others I’ve mentioned with a texture unlike anything else I’ve used before. The balm absorbs quickly into the skin, and is truly the perfect Summer product because it doesn’t sit on top of the skin, and leaves the skin plump and hydrated.

BOOSTER:

DERMALOGICA – Skin Hydrating Booster:

There is nothing in my collection like this product, and I haven’t tried anything like it before. It’s a really clever little product that just adds more hydration to any product it is mixed into. A small dropper of a clear thin liquid that can be applied in any product, it’s a genius way to add more hydration and I personally love mixing it into evening moisturisers and face masks. Perfect for dehydrated skin, and winter dryness.

I love my moisturisers, and these are some of my favourites, so I hope it’s given you some inspiration for new products to try or even something to revisit in your collection. Let me know if you have any recommendations that you think I should try out!
