2018 has been a huge year for me in regards to beauty and trailing new products with so many releases constantly coming. While there have been so many amazing products released I’m going to try and keep this short, which has never been my strong point.
I didn’t do a favourites last year on my website, and quite frankly 2017 was a very inconsistent time on my website, but one thing I’ve been very proud of is how much more I’ve posted on my website, and I thank everyone for reading along this year. I really look forward to being even more consistent with my 2 posts a week in 2019, and can’t wait to see where that helps take this little labour of love.
NYX Cosmetics – Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer:
NYX Angel Veil is a lovely far more affordable alternative to the incredible Hourglass Mineral Veil primer that is a really beautiful primer, but far more expensive than this primer. I love wearing this under any foundation and find that it helps especially with longevity and general application of foundation on the skin.
L’Oreal – Infallible Pro Glow Foundation ‘202 – Creamy Natural’:
This foundation has been with me all year, since changing my foundation preferences quite drastically, moving away from full coverage matte foundations and being far more interested in a more natural light-medium coverage glowing foundation more often than not. I have lots of full reviews regarding this foundation, but it’s a great affordable foundation that has the perfect shade for me, but a truly atrocious shade range which is my only criticism of the foundation.
Tarte – Shape Tape Concealer ‘Light Neutral’:
One of the products that have been a bit of a repeat for a couple of years now. A classic full coverage, long wearing concealer that is very widely
It Cosmetics – Celebration Foundation Illumination ‘Medium’:
After falling in love with the CC powder from It Cosmetics I was so excited to try this one out, and have loved it even more. It’s a powder foundation, but I personally love using this with a Real Techniques powder brush because it’s such a large brush head and disperses the product perfectly. The powder sets my makeup perfectly, but doesn’t make me appear cakey or take away any of the glow I’ve built using other products, love!
Nudestix – Concealer Pencil ‘Deep 8’:
While this is actually a concealer pencil it doubles as a beautiful contour shade that adds a really beautiful layer of coverage to the skin without looking cakey or heavy handed. Due to being a concealer it does blend beautifully on the skin, with ease when using a beauty sponge or dense kabuki style brush.
Hourglass – Ambient Lighting Bronzer ‘Luminous Bronze Light’:
While this is a $73AUD bronzer, I can honestly say if my entire makeup collection went missing, I would still run out and repurchase this bronzer, because it’s incredible. I love the sheen and colour of the bronzer, and find it to be the perfect pick me up when my face is looking dull or in need a nice summer bronze look. Highly recommend, and am yet to be disappointed by anything from Hourglass honestly.
Clinique – Cheek Pop ‘Melon Pop’:
Blush to me is something that ought to be subtle and barely there, but I still want to apply a little to the cheeks to help break up the colours on my skin. I love the peachy shade that this lightly leaves on the skin, with the slightest of sheens on the skin, it’s very flattering on the skin. There is also a large shade range available making it more accessible for a majority of the skin.
CoverFX – Custom Enhancing Drops ‘Moonlight’:
This is one of my favourite products in my entire collection, and my personal favourite way of wearing it is in my foundation as a mix in as it gives my skin a beautiful glow from within. It can also be applied on the top of the
Marc Jacobs – Glowstick ‘Spotlight 700’:
This is perfect for applying to the high points of cheekbones or the face quickly with a beauty blender or a stippling brush as it doesn’t need much blending and is a good easy morning step in my beauty routine. Very foolproof and doesn’t require much product to create the desired look, also meaning that the product lasts forever.
Becca Cosmetics – Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed ‘Opal’:
Becca makes the most incredible powders, and always appear so finely milled on the skin preventing any further texture on the skin, while adding a beautiful glow. This can be over applied or can appear to be in a stripe so I love setting this with a setting spray and occasionally a light dusting of powder over the area.
L’Oreal – Brow Artiste Plumper ‘Medium/Dark’:
This has been a favourite of mine for years now, and I love that it has a dark shade that isn’t warm toned, but helps to fill in any missed places when using pomade or powder. This sets the brows well, but doesn’t make them crunchy or stuck down especially. Affordable, and comes in a light and dark shade, as well as a translucent shade.
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Dip Brow Pomade ‘Dark Brown’:
I shouldn’t talk too much about this because it’s super popular and I’ve been raving about this since 2015 I believe. However, just to confirm I still love this pomade, and still works a treat. Have been using powder products more towards the end of the year, and loving that, but for the entire year I think this pomade still wins.
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Modern Renaissance:
Anastasia Beverly Hills releases so many eyeshadow palette’s so often, with a slightly varied review of each. However, Modern Renaissance formula is very well loved publicly, and personally I love the formula and colour selection. While it is a very warm palette, I personally gravitate towards the lovely light brown shades in this palette, and find them perfect to create an everyday eye look, or then am able to create a deeper more defined eye look with the darker berry or dark brown shades in the palette.
Maybelline – Hypersharp Wing Liquid Linder ‘Black’:
This is just a great classic black angled liquid liner that makes even the worst liner user like myself able to easily apply the most basic liner across my upper lash line. It’s also an affordable alternative to so many more expensive liners, with no real point of difference between the more expensive liquid liners, and this lovely Maybelline one.
L’Oreal – Voluminous Carbon Black:
2019 might be the year that I start a passionate petition to have this mascara more widely available in Australia, it’s a cause worthy of my time. I love this foundation and have used it so many times, but it’s so hard to get your mitts on in Australia. If you love Too Face Better Than Sex style mascaras, then I think you’ll love this one. Super affordable in the US, so if you’re travelling or US based then check this out if you haven’t already.
Nudestix – Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil ‘Pixi’:
Nude lipsticks are definitely my favourite to wear all year round, and while I do like a bold red, nude pink shades with a touch of peach are my favourites. While I used to love a matte lip, I’m much more inclined to a creamier or gloss lip product. The Nudestix range is gorgeous and they have a huge range of shades, and such a comfortable formula to wear.
So these are my favourites of 2018, please let me know some of your favourites of the past year or even something you’re loving currently even if it’s not a long term favourite.
